Gambia names WAFU squad

The Gambia have unveiled its 18-man squad that will feature in the West African Football Union (WAFU) tournament that kicks off in Ghana in two weeks’ time.

The team, led by Omar Sise, will be camped at a local hotel on Monday evening before departure to Takoradi where they face off the hosts in the opening game on September 9.

Mo Barrow set for Swansea reunion

Gambia winger Modou Barrow is set for a reunion with former club Swansea City who have been drawn with Reading FC in the third round of the English Football League Cup (EFL).

Barrow featured for the Royals who beat Millwall 3-1 in extra time on Tuesday night which was enough to earn them a pairing with Swansea with the tie taking place at the Madejski Stadium on September 18.

Ali Sowe’s Skënderbeu claim historic Europa League place

Gambia striker Ali Sowe was in jubilation mood as his Albanian club KF Skënderbeu claimed a historic UEFA Europa League group stage qualification after holding Croatia’s Dinamo Zagreb to a goalless draw in the play-off to qualify 1-1 on aggregate.

Their qualification into Europe’s second most prestigious tournament came thanks to a priceless away goal in the first leg encounter.

Barca send Alasana Manneh on loan

Spanish La Liga giants FC Barcelona have sent their Gambian youngster Alasana Manneh out on loan to third-tier side CE Sabadell.

The Gambia international impressed last season for coach Gabri García’s U19 side and had done well in preseason with the B team that prompted the club to promote him to the senior squad to train with the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar.
