Gambia to host CAR friendly as Savoy marks return

The Gambia will play a FIFA friendly international against the Central African Republic (CAR) on Saturday 24th March at the Independence Stadium, as part of preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The fixture marks a welcome home return for the Scorpions, following recent training camps and friendly matches abroad. It can be recalled that the Scorpions defeated CAR in a March 2017 friendly in Rabat, Morocco.

Sawaneh joins tenth career club

Scorpions striker Ibou Sawaneh has left KSV Roeselare to join AFC Tubize on a free transfer on deadline day in Belgium, Gambia Sports can report.

The 31-year-old leaves Roeselare to join his tenth career club in Tubize, plying their trade in the second-tier as his previous team.

Barcelona rescind Manneh loan, send him out to Bulgaria

Spanish La Liga giants FC Barcelona have rescinded Gambian youngster Alasana Manneh’s loan move to third-tier side CE Sabadell before sending him out again to Bulgarian club SFC Etar Veliko Tarnovo.


The Gambia international joined Sabadell in the summer on a temporary deal which was set to run until the end of the season but that has now been rescinded by his parent club after featuring only twice in the Spanish third-tier, clocking 144 minutes and netting once in a 2-0 win at UE Llagostera-Costa Brava in October.

Njie nets first Boavista goal

Gambia attacker Yusupha Njie netted his first goal for Boavista in their 2-1 win over C.S. Marítimo in the Portuguese Primeira Liga on Wednesday.

Njie, who has been battling with a niggling injury since joining Boavista on a one-year loan from Moroccan side FUS de Rabat in November, was handed his first start since his recuperation and repaid the faith coach Jorge Simão had in him by netting his side’s winner in the 80th minute.
