Sports Council say no to FIFA, stands by decision

The Gambia’s National Sports Council (NSC) says it will not heed to a FIFA threat to ban the country if its decision to suspend the executive of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) is not reversed by Monday.

The NSC made this statement through its chairman, Borri Darboe, at a press conference organized at the Independence Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Gambia risk ban as FIFA issues ultimatum to government

World football governing body FIFA has given the Gambia government until Monday to overturn its decision to “suspend and investigate” officials of the Gambia Football Federation.

FIFA, in a letter addressed to the Lamin Kabba Bajo-led Executive, warns the National Sports Council, who are mandated by the country’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, to reverse its decision to suspend and investigate the Federation and warns that the country will face suspension should they proceed with their investigation.

Gambia vs Algeria AFCON qualifier postponed

The Gambia’s second round match with Algeria in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled for March 2018 has been postponed by the Confederation of African Football.

The postponement came as a result of a request from the five countries that will represent the continent at the World Cup in Russia next year and to allow them have enough time to prepare for the tournament.

Gambia climb in FIFA rankings

The Gambia has moved one place in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World ranking for the month of November released on Thursday.

The Scorpions move a place further to lie 163 in the world and 49 in Africa. The rise is attributed to their recent friendly win over Morocco’s CHAN team earlier this month.
