Papa Gassama to officiate S/Africa V Nigeria game

Gambian referee Bakary Papa Gassama will take charge of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture between South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and the Super Eagles of Nigeria billed for November, 17 2018 at the magnificent FNB Stadium, Johannesburg.

The 39-year-old is regarded as one of the best referees on the continent and was among the few Africans selected for the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Cherno Samba lifts lid on failed Liverpool move

Former Gambia international Cherno Samba has finally revealed the reason behind his failed move to Liverpool nearly two decades ago that led him to fall into depression and try to take his own life.

The former Scorpions striker came to prominence by scoring 132 goals in 32 games for his boyhood club Millwall and was signed to the team’s academy at the age of 13.

S/East V West marred by controversy

The Serekunda derby game between Serekunda East and West, on Sunday, was marred by controversy after one of the assistant referees had a stone thrown on his head by a fan believed to be Serekunda West supporter, leaving central referee Maudo Jallow to end the game prematurely after a 2-0 score-line in favour of Serekunda East.

East beat 10-man West team as Ablie Manneh scored both goals in the 76th and 85th minutes respectively in an encounter played at the Serekunda West mini stadium. 

GFF and partners to launch two-year women’s football development programme

The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) and its partners will on Monday 5th November, 2018, launch a two-year partnership programme aimed at developing women’s football in the country. This will be done in the form of a press conference where the globally acclaimed football expert, Monika Staab, a German, would be formerly introduced to the Gambian people.

Ms. Staab, 59, a former German football player and football manager has returned to the country on a two-year Technical Assistance programme following the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Gambia’s Ministry of Youth & Sports and Germany’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The programme is mainly targeted at the overall development of women football in The Gambia. This was also secured through the joint efforts of The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) and the GFF.
