Ceesay nets second goal

Striker Assan Ceesay was in joyous mood at the weekend as he scored his second goal of the campaign for FC Zürich who were held to a 1-1 draw at basement side Grasshopper.

The Scorpions international, whose last goal came in a 2-1 win at FC Sion in September, raced down the wings after a through ball from teammate Levan Kharabadze before unleashing a left-footed shot past the home side’s goalkeeper in the 30th minute.

Red Scorpions have won the national Women’s First Division league after defeating nearest challengers to the title to establish an unassailable nine point lead with only two matches to spare.

In a top of the table clash at the National Technical Training Centre at Old Yundum, the defending champions Interior FC had the chance to cut Red Scorpions’ lead at the top to just three points heading into the final two matches but their 2-0 defeat at the hands of their traditional rivals instead means they have surrendered their crown to the Jeshwang-based side who would no longer be caught on the standing.
