Jatta nets eleventh league goal

Young Gambian striker Alassana Jatta scored his eleventh league goal of the season in Paide Linnameeskond’s 7-0 romping of FC Kuressaare on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old, who scored his sixth goal of the season last weekend against JK Viljandi Tulevik, followed that up by netting a quintet of goals against Kuressaare in Paide, a city in the Estonian capital of Järva County.

Jatta opened the scoring as early as the first minute of the encounter before following it up with two goals before the end of the first half for his first career hat trick.

He continue his fine form in the second half with two extra goals, the last, in the 90th minute, a ferocious shot past helpless Kuressaare keeper Magnus Karofeld.

The goals took the former Real de Banjul attacker’s goals to eleven after eleven appearances, seven of those goals coming from the right-wing position.

“It’s a very, very good game. I’m very happy with the score. We worked very hard on this victory since last week. We won the 6-0 the previous game, so maybe it’s no surprise,” Jatta said in his post-match comments.

The striker, who had a trial with Italian Serie A club Genoa before moving to Estonia, was humble in his reaction and despite being the club’s leading goal scorer, says the victory was due to the team’s efforts.

“We deserve this victory. I can’t say it’s my effort, it’s a team effort because we’ve been working hard since the start of the season. I’ve been working hard after getting back from my injury and I think the team is impressing me,” Jatta, who is now second on the goals standings, said.

Paide currently lie fourth on the Estonian Meistriliiga with 33 points, seven behind leaders FC Flora.
