Gambian duo Carayol and Gaye released

Gambian duo Mustapha Carayol and Baboucarr Gaye have both been released by Apollon Limassol and Arminia Bielefeld respectively.

Winger Carayol, who scored two goals in fourteen league appearances for Apollon, leaves the Cypriot club after just one season.

The Scorpions international, who has played in England throughout his career, signed a two-year contract with the Limassol-based club last August, featuring five times during their 2018/19 UEFA Europa League campaign.

But the three-time Cypriot champions have now decided to let go of the former Bristol Rovers, Middlesbrough, Brighton & Hove Albion, Leeds United, Huddersfield Town, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town player despite a year left on his current deal.

Elsewhere in Germany, goalkeeper Baboucarr Gaye was also let go by boyhood club Arminia Bielefeld.

The 21-year-old, who rose through the ranks with the 2. Bundesliga side’s youth teams, got his first Scorpions call-up last year.

He has been let go after his current deal elapsed, failing to make a first-team appearance for Bielefeld in three seasons.
