Hamza Barry racks up 100th club cap

Scorpions midfielder Hamza Barry officially racked up a century of appearances for Croatian side HNK Hajduk Split.

The Gambia international, who joined Hajduk in 2016 on an initial loan that turned permanent from Cypriot club Apollon Limassol, has become an integral part in Split’s midfield, putting up impressive performances every season.

He looked poised to leave the Croatian outfit after being linked with a move to English Premier League club West Ham United last summer but nothing came out of those reports.

He clocked a century of appearances for Split who ran out 4-1 winners at NK Rudeš as the club pushed for a UEFA Europa League spot.

The 24-year-old was beaming with pride after the match saying he feels at home at the club despite a year left on his contract.

“When I came [here], everything was so new and so strange. Today, I feel like this is my second home! Hajduk is a good development and I remember when I played my first game.”

“I said [it before that] I have a contract that I respect and we have ambitions. Of course, when I leave, it will be a very sad day for me but I do not think about this at least. I respect the club and I am happy here,” he added.

Barry, who started his career in with the Gambia Ports Authority before joining Maltese side Valletta in 2013, has been a regular in Hajduk’s team when fit.
