Nda Jagne a doubt for Algeria clash

Scorpions coach Tom Saintfiet is set to lose captain Pa Modou Jagne in the Gambia’s final 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match with Algeria later this month.

Belgian Saintfiet is yet to unveil his squad list of players set to face the Fennecs in the return leg match in Algeria on March 22, but Gambia Sports can confirm that the FC Zürich defender is one of those set to miss out as he might fail to recuperate on time for the match.

The 29-year-old last featured for the Swiss Super League side in their 2-0 win over Grasshopper Club Zürich on December 2 with the extent of his unreported injury unknown.

He has missed the club’s past eleven games in which they’ve won just twice.

Already qualified Algeria are topping Group D with 10 points after five matches, followed by Benin (7 points), the Gambia (5) and Togo (5).

The last round of the group matches, due in two weeks, will be crucial for determining the second place holder.

Benin will play at home against Togo, while the Gambia play away in Algeria.
