Buba completes Anderlecht move

Gambia defender Bubacarr Sanneh has left Danish champions FC Midtjylland to sign a five-year contract with Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht.

The Scorpions defender, who only joined Midtjylland in January 2018 from AC Horsens for €200,000, leaves the Scandinavian country after four years for a new adventure in Brussels.

The 23-year-old joined Anderlecht, who have been keen admirers and have been courting him for the past three months, for a fee of €8m, which is a new Belgian record for a defender.

“After lengthy negotiations, we are very pleased that we have been able to complete this important transfer on the last day of the transfer window”, Anderlecht sporting director Luc Devroe said.

The Scorpions international on his part thanked his former employers who were reluctant to let him go and expressed gratitude to the club.

“I want to start by saying many THANKS to Matthew, Rasmus, the entire Board, Management, Staff and Everyone associated with FC Midtjylland for opening the doors of the Club to me and for helping me during my time here, making it so enjoyable and memorable. I want to publicly THANK YOU and the entire Coaching Staff for all the incredible opportunities I have been given and to my AMAZING Teammates,” he said.

He told Gambia Sports from his base in Brussels: “I am happy with this move to this great club. Anderlecht is a club known for giving youngsters the chance to shine that’s why I decided it was time to come here and start a new adventure.”

“It’s a great environment and structure here, I look forward to linking up with my teammates and helping the club achieve its goals and ambitions for the season and years ahead,” he added.

The 6ft 0in defender will don the number 4 jersey at Anderlecht, previously occupied by Senegal international Kara Mbodji.

Gambia Sports can meanwhile confirm that the Scorpions defender will be handed his Anderlecht debut when they host Royal Antwerp on Sunday at the Stade Constant Vanden Stock.
