Scorpions-eligible Kanté nets in Ligue 2

Gambian striker Aboubakary Kanté netted his first goal in the second-tier of French league football for Avenir Sportif Béziers who secured a 1-0 win at Troyes AC at the weekend.

Kanté, who goes by the moniker Booba, was handed a third consecutive start by gaffer Mathieu Chabert at the Stade de l’Aube and the Scorpions-eligible wasted no time in finding the back of the net in the 42nd minute after being setup by teammate Antoine Rabillard.

The 24-year-old, born in the French commune in the northwestern suburb of Pontoise, started his professional career at Paris FC five years ago before being loaned to CA Bastia.

Finding playing time hard to come by at the Paris club, the 6ft 0in attacker left for AS Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône in the fifth-tier of French football where he redeemed his career by netting six goals in 12 appearances.

A move to Béziers followed, guiding them to French Ligue 2 promotion with seven goals to his name.

Booba has scored 32 goals in 85 appearances since turning professional in 2013.

Béziers currently lie seventh on the 20-team French Ligue 2 table with six points after three outings.
