Muzzy leaves England for Cyprus

Gambia winger Mustapha Carayol has left England after more than a decade to move to Cyprus where he penned a deal with top-tier club Apollon Limassol.

The Scorpions international, who has played in England throughout his career, signs a two-year contract with the Limassol-based club.

Last season, the nine-time Cypriot Cup champions missed a chance to claim their fourth league title after finishing as runners-up.

Carayol could make his debut when Apollon welcome Belarusian club Dinamo Brest in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

The 29-year-old joined Nottingham Forest in 2016 before completing a move to Ipswich Town in January 2018 on a deal until the end of the season following his release by Nottingham.

He impressed during many of his eight Ipswich appearances, most notably during a scintillating 25-minute display at Preston in which he scored the winner before being withdrawn at half-time due to illness.

Injuries, however, hampered him during his time at Portman Road, restricting him to just 317 minutes in an Ipswich shirt.

The Apollon new number 19 played for Milton Keynes Dons at the beginning of his career and had stints at a number of clubs including Torquay United, Lincoln City and Bristol Rovers.

He then joined Middlesbrough in 2012, before playing for Brighton & Hove Albion, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town on loan.
