Sanneh’s Midtjylland dumped out of Champions League

Gambia international Bubacarr Sanneh’s FC Midtjylland failed to break through a rugged FC Astana defence who secured a goalless draw at the MCH Arena in Herning to dump the hosts out of the 2nd qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

The Scorpion defender’s team were unable to turn around the 2-1 deficit at home, drawing 0-0 despite numerous chances to score that vital goal with the last-gasp winner for Astana last week proving the difference in a tight matchup.

The 23-year-old put up a Man of the Match performance but that wasn’t enough as his side failed to break the deadlock.

“It’s disappointing that we couldn’t capitalize on our chances even though we could’ve won because we played well. But we will now focus on our next games, build on this performance and see how things go for us,” Sanneh told Gambia Sports after the game.

Midtjylland can still look forward to some more European football, as they will take part in the UEFA Europa League qualification instead where they will face either The New Saints FC of Wales or Lincoln Red Imps FC from Gibraltar in the third qualification round.
