Pa Dibba completes China switch

Chinese League One side Shenzhen FC have signed Scorpions striker Pa Amat Dibba from Swedish club Hammarby IF for a reported fee of over €1 million, Gambia Sports can reveal.

Pa Dibba, who has scored seven goals in ten appearances in the ongoing Swedish Allsvenskan season for Hammarby IF, has been targeted by the Chinese second-tier side who were confident in luring the Scorpion to the world’s most populous country.

The 30-year-old was in the East Asian country to complete mandatory medicals after agreeing personal terms.

He has now signed a three-year contract at the club to become the second Gambian currently plying their trade in China after Guizhou Hengfeng’s Bubacarr ‘Steve’ Trawally.

“It’s a good transfer for both Hammarby and, in particular, Pa Dibba, who impressively demonstrated that you can break through and still develop as a football player of mature age. For us as a club, it gives us a sense of comfort and control for current transfer windows and the pursuit of a top ranking striker in the Allsvenskan,” the Swedish club’s sporting director Jesper Jansson, said.

He added: “Pa is a unique player with pointed features, but we also feel that we are both wide and tip in the existing squad, which we are very confident with. We thank Pa for his time in Hammarby and congratulate him on his new adventure.”

The Farafenni-born striker left GIF Sundsvall to join their Allsvenskan rivals Hammarby on a three-year contract in 2016.

Shenzhen FC, based in the major city in Guangdong Province, are currently third on the Chinese second-tier league table with 23 points after 13 outings.
