Ebou Adams leaves Norwich City for Ebbsfleet

English fifth-tier club Ebbsfleet United have signed Gambia international Ebrima ‘Ebou’ Adams on a free transfer.

The 22-year-old joins the National League play-off semi-finalists after being released by Championship side Norwich.

The midfielder spent the second half of the 2017/18 season on loan at Leyton Orient, making 16 appearances.

Ebbsfleet United boss Daryl McMahon told the club website: “He’s had similar or better offers elsewhere but likes what he’s seen here. I think he’ll be a big player for us.”

Adams said: “I gave myself a bit of time after finishing the season at Leyton Orient. A few clubs spoke to my agent but I liked the way Ebbsfleet played last year, how they progressed and got themselves into the play-offs.”

“They offered me a deal and they were more patient. That was the main thing for me. Quite a few clubs came in but Leyton Orient and Ebbsfleet were the main ones. Financially, Leyton Orient offered me the better deal.”

“I wanted more time in the National League and it was a big decision. It wasn’t easy because I still have ambitions to get into the Football League but I still need to prove myself and hopefully Ebbsfleet is the place for me to do that.”

Adams began his career at sixth-tier side Dartford FC, making 23 appearances before making the move to the then-Premier League Norwich on Deadline Day in January 2016, becoming the Darts’ record sale in the process.

He had a brief loan spell at Braintree Town last season and was instrumental for a Norwich U23 side that reached two cup semi-finals last season, scoring six goals in 27 games.

He received his first call-up to the Gambian national team during his time with Shrewsbury, coming off the bench in the Scorpions’ 2-1 victory over Morocco’s CHAN in November.
