Savage winner send Erzurumspor into play-offs final

Scorpions winger Demba Savage was crucial in sending Büyükşehir Belediye Erzurumspor to the Turkish Süper Lig play-offs final as his goal secured a 2-1 win over Ümraniyespor on Tuesday afternoon.

The Gambia international, who completed a January transfer deadline day move from Finnish side HJK Helsinki to the Turkish second-tier club, saw limited playing opportunities since making the switch.

He’s made two starts since making the move with nine appearances from the bench. But he was trusted with the task to deliver for Erzurumspor who needed a win to qualify to the final of the play-offs for promotion to the Turkish top-tier.

The visitors took the lead before Ümraniyespor leveled on the stroke of full time. But Savage, who came off the bench in the 74th minute, was gifted with the opportunity to book a place for his team in the final, rocketing a ball past the host keeper seven minutes into stoppage time amid a cacophony of cheers from the visiting fans.

Savage and Erzurumspor will now face Gazişehir Gaziantep in the finals set to be played at the 43,331-capacity Büyükşehir Belediye stadium in Bursa on Saturday.

The winner will join Çaykur Rizespor and MKE Ankaragücü in the Turkish top-tier next season.
