Buba Sanneh guides Midtjylland to victory over Brøndby

Gambia defender Bubacarr Sanneh’s crucial header was enough for FC Midtjylland who moved level at the top of the Danish league standings with a 1-0 win at Brøndby IF on Monday.

The Scorpions center-back, who scored his second goal for the club in a 2-1 home win over FC Nordsjælland last Monday, found the back of the net for the second game running after scoring the only goal at the Brøndby Stadion yesterday, in front of 25,848 in attendance.

With the game headed for a goalless draw, the 23-year-old rose high to nod in through a corner to hand the visitors the maximum points and take them leveled on points with Brøndby.

The two are fighting for the Danish league title but Brøndby has the upper hand with a seven-point goal difference with two games to go.

Midtjylland coach Jess Thorup was full of praise for his strong defender, who joined the club during the winter transfer window.

“Bubacarr has lifted its level in recent months. He eats the two Brøndby attackers who in the last months have been incredibly hot. He has taken some quantum leaps in recent months and looks like one who can make himself in the big leagues – but right now we are very happy to have him with us,” he said.

The former Real de Banjul captain has clocked 731 minutes for Midtjylland and featured ten times since making the move from AC Horsens in January.
