Gambia to face Guinea Conakry in WAFU opener

The Gambia U20 will open its 2018 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) campaign with a game against Guinea Conakry next Wednesday.

The game, set to be played at the 35,000-capacity Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia, Liberia, will see the Junior Scorpions open their account with their counterparts from Conakry on April 25 with the match kicking off at 18:00GMT before they face neighbors Senegal two days later.

Should the Gambia win both encounters before facing off Mali in the final game, they will advance to the semi-finals of the tournament where the top two from Group A, which consists of hosts Liberia, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone, awaits them.

The team, coached by Mattar M’Boge, will enter camp tomorrow at the FIFA Goal Project in Yundum before an unveiling of the final list of players chosen for the tournament, a day later.

The team is scheduled to play two friendly matches with local sides Gambia Ports Authority and Hawks FC before their departure to Monrovia.
