Tijan Jaiteh’s Al-Markhiya relegated from Qatari league

Gambia midfielder Tijan Jaiteh and his Al-Markhiya Sports Club have been relegated from the Qatar Stars League after just one season in the country’s top-flight.

Al-Markhiya endured a difficult campaign in the Qatari top-tier after succumbing to 13 defeats with only two wins in 22 outings, garnering just 13 points in the process.

Scorpions’ midfield kingpin, Tijan, who moved to Al-Markhiya at the start of the season on a free transfer, made 17 appearances for the team, clocking 1346 minutes in the process.

The 29-year-old looks set to move on after the expiry of his one-year deal though Gambia Sports understands that authorities at the Doha-based club are locked in discussions with the former Sandefjord, SK Brann, Sandnes Ulf, FC Koper and Bnei Yehuda player for an extension.

Al-Markhiya will hope to redeem some pride when they face second-tier side Al-Shamal Sports Club in the first round of the Emir Cup in Madinat ash Shamal next Tuesday.
