Scorpions squad hit with major withdrawals

Gambia coach Sang Ndong has received a major setback in his friendly preparations after the withdrawal of Modou Barrow, Mustapha Carayol and Bubacarr Trawally from the Scorpions squad.

Sang, who announced his 23-man squad on Monday for next week’s friendlies against unnamed opposition in the Moroccan fourth largest city of Marrakesh, will have to do without the trio who have all pulled out due to injury, Gambia Sports can authoritatively reveal.

Barrow and Carayol withdrew due to knocks on their right and left knees respectively while Steve Trawally also pulled out due to a knock on his ankle after scoring a brace in Yanbian’s final home game of the season in the Chinese Super League at the weekend.

CS Sfaxien’s Raymond Mendy and Cesena’s Lamin Jallow have already withdrawn from the initial squad, with the Scorpions receiving the three further setbacks on Wednesday.

Locally based players are will likely to be drafted in by the Gambia boss ahead of the friendly matches in Morocco that’ll take place between the 8th to the 15th of November.

The Scorpions, inactive in October’s international window, will use this month’s window to prepare for its 2019 Africa Cup of Nations home qualifier match against the Desert Foxes of Algeria in March 2018.
