Gambia Taekwondo Elections: Samba retains Presidency, movie actor voted SG

The member clubs of the Gambia Taekwondo Association have come together, once again, to vote to fill the places for representatives on the executive committee.

It is around this time that debates re-emerge about how serious are their challenges, family discussions about taking the sport to new heights or whether changing or sticking with established taekwondo executives remains the order of the day.

On Saturday the 13th of August 2017, The GTA went for an Elective Congress at the OLYMPAFRICA Center at Serekunda East where the acting President Adama Samba retained his post as the president. He won unopposed.

Ba Kebba Susso comfortably resisted challenge in securing the vice presidency by defeating Baba Sarr 18 votes to 3. A former Secretary General of the association Modou Njie lost to Gambian movie actor Babucar Jallow in the race for the position of Secretary General while Omar Jallow and Pa Janneh secured treasure and auditor roles respectively.

Taekwondo was introduced in The Gambia by the founding father Master Pepe Joseph Goma in 1987, and now fully recognized by WTF through Master Master Sung.

The Gambia Taekwondo Federation is a member national association of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), the global Taekwondo body based in the Republic of Korea. Taekwondo is the fastest growing martial art sports in the world with 204-member nations.

The global body, World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) has put in place measures to make each member nation very active in the sport since Taekwondo was made a permanent game at the Olympics.
