Gina Bass given title deed after winning gold

Gambian athlete Gina Bass has been given a title deed by President Adama Barrow after scooping gold in the 200m at the recently concluded 2019 All-Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco.

Bass upset defending champion Marie Josée Ta Lou in the 200m as she eased past the World Championships silver medallist to cross the line first in a new national record of 22.58 (1.8m/s).

“I’m going to thank my coach because he is really a great coach for me. We worked for it! The preparation was fine. My target was to make the standard for the World Games. I know running with Ta Lou is going to help. She has been faster than me in both 100m and 200m and running with her really motivates me and makes me to push harder,” Gina said after her triumph.

The 24-year-old returned home to a hero’s welcome before being invited to State House by the Head of State who presented her with a title deed and congratulated her for her achievement.

Bass is currently in the Senegalese capital of  Dakar to prepare for the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships scheduled from September 27 to October 6 in Doha, Qatar.
